Instruments for Sale
The Vintage Clarinet Doctor refurbishes antique or vintage clarinets, saxophones (and the occasional flute or oboe) and has scores of satisfied customers in Europe, Japan, Australia and the USA. I try to keep my prices reasonable for both famous and obscure brands (cost of horn + labor and materials + fair markup) to keep my customers coming back while still providing me with enough for rent and the occasional Chinese buffet!
Each clarinet has been cleaned, oiled, buffed, swedged and countersunk, re-corked, and re-padded with pro quality double-bladder (or leather) and cork pads. Each sax has been cleaned, swedged and countersunk as needed, tone-holes leveled, posts aligned, rods straightened, re-corked, and re-padded with Music Medic kidskin pads with metal resonators (the closest match to original pads on many vintage horns). I have adjusted them for optimal intonation and playability and play tested before putting them up for sale. I won't sell you anything that I wouldn't play! However, please remember when you buy that these instruments are 50+ years old on average and may show signs of use: some cosmetic and/or mechanical restoration is not feasible in this price range!

For antique Albert system clarinets and other instruments c. 100 years old, please understand that I cannot guarantee intonation compared to a modern $2,800 Buffet, or describe every tiny ding or minor repair. These instruments are offered to collectors and performers of specialty musics who know what they are getting into! I understand that you don't want to spend $3,000 on a Hammerschmidt and I will do my best to supply you with a satisfactory instrument. I only add this as I have run up against some really unrealistic expectations, lately...
Clarinet Repair Prices For a trouble free overhaul of a Boehm system clarinet, I am currently starting at $250. This covers about 6 hours of my time plus materials. Albert system clarinets will start at $275 and Full Boehms at $300 (they take a couple extra hours, easy). Vintage clarinets must be priced on a case by case basis due to condition issues, quality of construction, age, and special-ordered supplies (special pads, for instance).

Saxophones

Saxophone Repair Prices Saxophone repair pricing will be based on age, condition, and complexity of mechanism. Older saxes, like older clarinets, require a lot of extra time and some specialized tools to obtain the best results. Altos will generally start @ $350, tenors @ $400, baritones @ $450.
Flutes

Shipping and Returns All US shipping is by USPS priority with delivery confirmation or UPS ground with tracking (depending on the weight of the item). I can generally ship a clarinet/flute and case for $14-25 and a sax for $25-45 depending on weight - I try not to pad shipping. Most returns accepted within 5 days and will issue refund (minus $20 for restock and cleaning), store credit or an exchange. Antique/vintage instrument refunds issued on a case by case basis.
