Vintage Couesnon Monopole Conservatoire Eb Alto Saxophone
$1385
A lovely late 40's/early 50's vintage 'Monopole Conservatoire' alto saxophone made by Couesnon of France. It is lacquered brass and is in amazing condition for its age, with no significant dents or repairs - a little dent work, but nothing that materially impacts looks or playability. Lacquer is about 90%, and it has rolled tone holes and an articulated G# key! The Monopole Conservatoire model was built on contract for the Paris conservatory and is great for Classical music, but its a real chameleon and, with the right mpc, can tackle Jazz, Rock, Funk, Blues... whatever. The date is a best guesstimate, as there aren't any serial number charts for their horns...
Its been disassembled, cleaned, swedged and countersunk (to tighten the mechanism) posts aligned, tone holes leveled, rods trued, all tan leather pads (with brass metal resos) installed, and key corks/felts replaced, reassembled and adjusted for optimal play-ability. The horn is a really sweet player, with a classic vintage French sound, a focused tone, good intonation, and comfortable key work... I'm very pleased with the condition and play-ability of this saxophone! Comes with new case in clean, solid condition.
