Vintage Dolnet Bel-Air Bb Soprano Saxophone
$1595
A rare early 1950's vintage 'Bel-Air' model Bb soprano saxophone made by Dolnet of Paris. These are wonderful, hand-made instruments - worthy competitors to Selmer or Buffet! - but not imported to this country in significant numbers at the time, so not as well known. They were played by a number of American expatriate musicians, such as Don Byas and Lester Young, and have developed a growing following due to their quality and low price in comparison to better known vintage saxes. It is silver-plated brass and is in great condition for its age, no dents or repairs!
Its been disassembled, cleaned, swedged and countersunk (to tighten the mechanism) posts aligned, tone holes leveled, rods trued, all new MusicMedic tan leather pads (with silver star resonators) and key corks installed, and reassembled and adjusted for optimal play-ability. Warm, focused tone reminiscent of a Selmer MarkVI , good intonation, comfortable keywork: I've really enjoyed playing this horn for the last couple of years! Comes with vintage (probably original) case in great condition and original factory card.
