Vintage Dolnet Series I Eb Alto Saxophone
$1485 sold
A lovely late 1930's/early 40's vintage 'Series I" alto saxophone made by Henri Dolnet of France. It is silverplated brass and is in amazing condition for its age, with no significant dents or repairs - a couple of post solders, but nothing that materially impacts looks or playability. Silver is about 98%, and it has straight tone holes and a G# trill key! The date is a best guesstimate, as there aren't any really good serial number charts for their earlier horns...
Its been disassembled, cleaned, swedged and countersunk (to tighten the mechanism) posts aligned, tone holes leveled, rods trued, all tan leather pads (with domed metal resos) installed, and key corks/felts replaced, reassembled and adjusted for optimal play-ability. The horn is a really good player, with more of an American than French sound, a broad, dark tone, good intonation, and comfortable key work: it would be a good horn for Jazz, Rock, Funk, Blues... I'm very pleased with the condition and play-ability of this saxophone! Comes with period case in clean, solid condition.
