Vintage Dolnet Series II Bb Tenor Saxophone
$1425
A rare circa 1948 vintage 'Series II' tenor saxophone made by Dolnet of Paris. It is raw brass and is in great condition for its age, with no dents or dent repairs - nothing that materially impacts looks or playability. Lacquer was about 40% and UGLY when I purchased it some years ago, so I did a chem strip (NO BUFFING) on the body and gave it a coat of wax. Keys retain original lacquer with cool oxidation and I like the contrast! Original engraving is still sharp, in case someone wants to relacquer.
Its been disassembled, cleaned, swedged and countersunk (to tighten the mechanism) posts aligned, tone holes leveled, rods trued, all tan leather pads (with flat metal resos) installed, and key corks replaced, reassembled and adjusted for optimal play-ability. The horn is a great player, and a real chameleon with different mouthpieces, with a full, slightly edgy tone, decent intonation, and comfortable key work: it would be a good horn for Jazz, Rock, Funk, Blues...but not a classical player, perhaps. I'm very pleased with the condition and play-ability of this saxophone and it comes with a vintage case (possibly original) in clean, solid condition.
