Mouthpieces

Picture
If you're like  the Vintage Clarinet Doctor, you enjoy trying different mouthpieces to alter the tone, intonation, and play-ability of your clarinet or saxophone. Maybe you want a Jazz sound, a Classical sound, or a Klezmer sound: its going to be a stretch to get all those from one 'piece!

Maybe you are looking for something more open to get more volume and less back-bore pressure, or just a good quality inexpensive hard rubber 'piece to save a student from spending big $$ for a new commercial 'piece!

Maybe you are a refacer, and want a cheap old hard rubber mouthpiece to tinker with! All of these have come in with old clarinets/saxes or been bought in a fit of "mouthpiece curiosity". All are clean, re-corked (as needed) and guaranteed playable. Whatever your needs, please look below...

I'm happy to recork any of my mouthpieces to your specifications for a modest charge!

Clarinet Miscellany

Vintage Elton Clarinet Ligature
$35

Well designed ligature in good condition, can't find out much about it. I'm guessing 1950's or earlier...

Antique Clarinet Reed Case
$39

Vintage clarinet reed case, came in with c.1910 German Albert system clarinet in C, so the reeds are a little smaller than Bb and all handmade! Snap on leather could use replacing, but otherwise a very cool and fully functional kit!

Clarinet Mouthpieces

Antique Buffet Crampon Evettine Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece
$95

This came in with a pair of 1899 Buffet Albert systems, so I had to do some research. 'Evettine', which is inscribed in the scroll above the Buffet logo, was their proprietary brand of hard rubber, and these mouthpieces evidently go back as far as 1885! I'm guessing this one at about 1900 and its in good shape for its age, with a tip opening of c.042". A good player with a hard reed for your period Albert or Boehm clarinet! Recorked.

Vintage Buffet Crampon Chedeville Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece A Facing
$85

This Buffet mouthpiece is made from a Chedeville blank and I'm guessing it dates to the 1930/40's based on the instrument that it came in with and its in good shape for its age, with the A facing tip opening measuring about c.040". A was Buffet's most closed tip, so this will be a good player with a hard reed for your period Albert or Boehm clarinet!

Vintage Buffet Crampon Chedeville Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece
$75

This Buffet mouthpiece is made from a Chedeville blank and I'm guessing it dates to the 1930/40's based on the instrument that it came in with. Its in good shape for its age, with the tip opening measuring about c.044". This will be a good player with a med. hard reed for your period Albert or Boehm clarinet!

Antique Buffet Crampon Evettine Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece #2
$65

This came in with a pair of 1899 Buffet Albert systems, so I had to do some research. 'Evettine', which is inscribed in the scroll above the Buffet logo, was their proprietary brand of hard rubber, and these mouthpieces evidently go back as far as 1885! I'm guessing this one at about 1900 and its in decent shape for its age, with a tip opening of c.044". Facing shows a bit more use, but still pulls a good vacuum. A good player with a harder reed for your period Albert or Boehm clarinet!
